UN Joint Program "Promoting and Protecting Women's and Girls' Human Rights"

The United Nations Joint Program "Promoting and Protecting Women's and Girls' Human Rights", was a project of social improvement and human development in which all of the United Nations Institutions in Turkey, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Hacı Ömer Sabancı Foundation (Sabancı Foundation) and Sabancı University had contributed. This project aimed at struggling against the existing gender inequality by bringing together the local administration, public institutions, private sector and non-governmental organizations in a collective action program. The project intended to make gender equality be realized through the increase in the level of gender consciousness in public, local decision makers  and non-governmental organizations, both in local and national levels.

This project, aiming at protecting women's and girls' human rights and increasing the social consciousness, had been implemented in six pilot provinces; Izmir, Kars, Nevşehir, Şanlıurfa, Trabzon and Van, between December 2005 and December 2010. 

Women's Studies Symposium (2007)

Sabancı University has hosted the "Women's Studies Symposium" in 10-11 July 2007. Academicians from teh six provinces, participated in this symposium. 39 academicians have presented their researches from different areas and exchanged ideas about the "Purple Certificate Program" through the symposium. The aims of the "Women's Studies Symposium", which lasted for two days, were determined as;

  • To share the problems and the studies in the six provinces
  • To consruct a communication network and make that network continous
  • To conduct collective studies upon the communication network
